The Psychology of Stones: Exploring the Jungian Dimensions of Stone as a Symbol of the Self

  • 13 Steps

About

A beginner's course exploring the relationship between stone and psyche through the life and work of Carl Jung. The course follows the thread of stone, rock, crystal, and lapis from Jung's childhood encounter with a single stone near his family home, through his depth psychology and decades of alchemical research, to his collaboration with physicist Wolfgang Pauli on the relationship between psyche and matter. Across six modules, students come to understand why the stone stands as the central symbol of psychological transformation in the Western tradition, and how the mineral kingdom participates in the ongoing process of becoming whole. No prior knowledge of Jung or depth psychology is required.
